What is the Academy?
Housed with the STEM PLUS Community, the Academy is a group of peer scholars who engage in things such as workshops, a 1-credit class for freshmen, networking, and social events facilitated by professional staff and trained peers. They gain access to mentorship, curated workshops, 1:1 help finding internships, jobs, and research opportunities, a community of like-minded students, and opportunities for funding for experiences like professional conferences, research, and more.

First-year students: Complete the UNIV 1820 STEM PLUS class offered in the fall semester, reach out to Michael Petro for a permission number.

Reach out to our program director, Michael Petro. He can be reached via email or through Nexus. Note: If you are a returning Scholar from the LSAMP program, you are considered automatically enrolled in the Academy, no further action is required.

If you have completed your expectations or are in process, you may request funds for participation in professional conferences, research opportunities, and unpaid internships. (Please note, requests do not guarantee funds and are subject to availability and other restrictions.)

STEM PLUS values your engagement. In order to better understand what our community is involved in and cares about, we’re asking you to share when you’ve gone to events.
